What is herbal medicine?
Herbal medicine can be suitable for everyone, and as a practitioner I treat the whole person, not only the presenting symptoms. My prescriptions are individualised to each patient, and will aim to treat the whole picture as well as the root cause of imbalance.
Herbal medicine can be used to support a wide range of acute and chronic health concerns.
Some examples include:
Hormonal and reproductive health
Mood, sleep and energy imbalances
Chronic pain and musculoskeletal conditions
Digestive disorders and gut health
Cardiovascular and circulatory health
Allergies and respiratory conditions
Immune support and recurrent infections
Skin conditions
Immune dysregulation and inflammatory conditions
Herbal medicine can equally be used as a preventative form of healthcare. Working with a medical herbalist helps maintain balance and support for digestion, immunity, and the nervous system, and reduce the likelihood of chronic disease developing over time.
Why see a medical herbalist?
As a qualified medical herbalist, I have undergone a five-year degree-level training in anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and clinical diagnosis, alongside extensive study of medicinal plants and their therapeutic actions and over 500 hours of clinical training. This depth of training ensures that my treatment plans are clinically informed, safe, and appropriate—particularly if you are taking medication or managing a diagnosed condition.
As a member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists (NIMH), I am held to strict standards of practice, ethics, and ongoing professional development. This provides reassurance that you are working with someone who is qualified, accountable, and committed to safe, evidence-informed care.
Herbal medicine has roots that span back thousands of years, with traditions existent across various cultures around the world. Modern western herbal medicine is a fusion of this traditional knowledge and modern scientific research. Herbal medicine is a holistic and personalised approach to healthcare and draws on the therapeutic application of plants to treat disease or imbalance. Every plant contains chemical compounds which have a measurable pharmacological impact in the human body. My role as a practitioner is to choose the right herb to match your individual needs, and this will be informed through the consultation process.
Ensuring safety is a foundation of my practice, and as a medical herbalist I am trained to make sure the herbs I prescribe are safe for you to take. This involves recognising the right herb for your particular constitution, condition and takes into account any medication you may be taking. I source all my herbs from reputable suppliers who have a sustainable and traceable supply chain, which ensures my prescriptions are high quality, safe and effective.
